Certificate Course in Occupational Health

Course Overview

 

The certificate course in Occupational Health meets the training needs of health professionals worldwide who are interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in Occupational Health and developing their career in this speciality.

The course delegates will acquire knowledge and skills in the following topics

  • Fundamentals in Occupational Health including ethical and legal considerations

  • Fitness for work assessment and the relationship between health and work

  • Hierarchy of controls, workplace risk assessment and health surveillance

  • Industry-specific topics such as mental health issues in the workplace, immunisation and exposure to infectious diseases.

 

Course delivery

 

This is an e-Learning course of 8 weeks duration and will be delivered using a combination of online presentation videos and reading material. It will be supported by 8 virtual tutorials, one every weekend via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and the delegates can interact with the lead course tutor via the e-Learning platform throughout the course duration. There will be one assignment for every module which is aimed at self-learning and enhancing the understanding of that topic. There is NO exam, but the candidates will be expected to submit their assignments so that we can provide feedback and issue a course completion certificate.

Course Modules

 

The course is divided into four modules.

  • Module 1: Fundamentals of Occupational Health​​

  • Module 2​: Fitness for work assessment - the relationship between health and work

  • Module 3: Assessing workplace risk and health surveillance ​​​

  • Module 4 (one of the following topics)

    • Mental health in the Workplace

    • Immunisation at work in a healthcare setting

    • Management of exposure to blood-borne viruses in a healthcare setting
